Violette And Co

Opened in 2004, Violette and Co is the first French bookshop specialising in feminist, lesbian and LGBTI+ issues. More than a simple bookshop, Violette and Co is a place for the circulation of knowledge and stories, a space for reflection welcoming literary events, signings, book clubs, writing workshops and exhibitions. It is a place that has helped to preserve LGBTI+ memories and has worked to bring to light many women writers who have been unjustly erased from history. It is a place of passage for any lesbian arriving in the capital, a place that assures us that we are not alone or isolated in time, that feminist, lesbian, LGBTI+ history has existed and will endure! On 12 February 2023, after 18 years of existence, the bookshop Violette and Co closed its doors due to the retirement of its founders. The takeover by a new team has been a success and was able to benefit from the support of the Mairie de Paris to secure a lease in the 11th arrondissement, not far from Les Mots A La Bouche, and is now part of the SCOP LGBT, alongside Les Mots A La Bouche and the club Le Tango. * Violette and Co is a bookshop dedicated to texts and images that celebrate women and homosexualities in all their forms. Novels, essays, illustrated books, crime fiction, comics, journals… are brought together across two floors, bookshop and café, where feminisms, lesbian, gay and trans realities — and imaginaries — and all questions of gender come together. It is a bright, warm and lively place that invites all those who love literature off the beaten track and who reflect on our societies.
